What is Surrogacy?

Being parents to beautiful children is the best feeling in the world which cannot be compared to any other. However, there are people in the world who are devoid of this feeling. Surrogacy is an arrangement that can bring back that feeling to couples who are not able to have kids in a natural way. It is basically an agreement between a couple and another woman who carries the child of the couple and delivers it. This woman could be the genetic mother of the child. This process is known as traditional surrogacy. There are other methods of surrogacy as well.

Commercial surrogacy is another method in which monetary transaction is involved. When a woman is paid to carry the intended parent’s baby and receives compensation besides medical expenses it is called commercial surrogacy.

Gestational surrogacy is a form in which an embryo is planted in the uterus of a woman and she carries it from pregnancy to delivery. If the woman carrying and delivering the baby does not receive any money for what she has done and does not demand any, it is known as altruistic surrogacy.

There are two ways in which traditional surrogacy can be carried out. Intracervical Insemination or ICI is done at a health clinic and Artificial Insemination which is done at home. This is also known as Intrauterine Insemination or IUI in which the woman is impregnated through frozen sperm or fresh ones.

Surrogacy is opted for by couples under various circumstances among which medical conditions like infertility are the major reason. Sometimes, the woman is not able to carry the baby because multiple risks are involved or she has suffered through multiple miscarriages. In other cases, single parents also opt for surrogacy. If he or she wishes to be the biological parent of the child, then he or she can go for surrogacy. Sometimes, it is the best option for same-sex couples to have a child through surrogacy. The laws regarding surrogacy vary in different countries.

Surrogacy is mostly done through health clinics or agencies since it becomes difficult for couples to do it on their own. We are well-informed about Artificial Reproductive Technologies and therefore can assist you in the best possible way to experience the bliss of becoming proud parents.
