Micro Nutrition and fertility

Some micronutrients may enhance fertility.

Fertility and nutrition

Some research findings supported the higher pregnancy rates among users of micronutrient supplements including multivitamins either with or without fertility disorders.

Following are some vitamins and their role in fertility health:

Folate

Supplementation of folate during pregnancy is highly recommended to prevent the risk of neural tube defects and other congenital malformations.

But recent findings suggest that folate status may be important in the ovarian response to FSH.

Therefore, medical experts started a clinical investigation to know the role of multivitamin supplements associated with the incidence of ovulatory disorder infertility and explored which nutrients could explain the association if it existed.

Other B vitamins play a role in infertility

A study result reported that a higher intake of vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, and B12 reduces the risk associated with ovulatory infertility.

Some studies have reported that vitamin B12 deficiency can cause female infertility.

Moreover, a research finding supported that increased vitamin B12 and folate levels can cause fertility enhancement among women who had undergone infertility treatment.

Vitamin B supplementation is not only helpful for female fertility but can also boost sperm quality.

Therefore, vitamin B complex multivitamin improves overall fertility.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that reduces overall cellular damage in the body and also enhances iron absorption.

A research result documented that a combination of vitamin C and vitamin E could improve sperm quality, quantity, and DNA integrity.

All these male fertility factors are essential for successful conceiving.

The RDA of vitamin C is 90mg for men and 75mg for females.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D or sunshine vitamin can improve ovarian stimulation and semen quality.

The deficiency of vitamin D can cause female infertility.

A research finding showed a link between PCOS-related female infertility with vitamin D deficiency.

Vitamin D is essential for both female and male reproductive functions.

Deficiency of vitamin D may cause male and female infertility.

Therefore, checking vitamin D status for both men and women is important during family planning.

The doctor will suggest an appropriate dose depending upon the result of the diagnostic test report.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is recommended for both men and women.

Vitamin E can increase sperm motility, and boost reproductive health in females.

The antioxidant property of vitamin E may promote sperm function in men.

In women, the benefit of vitamin E is required to determine.

The adult dose of vitamin E is 15mg.

Iron

World Health Organization (WHO) recommended daily oral iron and folic acid supplementation with 30 mg to 60 mg of elemental iron for pregnant women to prevent maternal anemia, puerperal sepsis, low birth weight, and preterm birth.

Zinc is for male fertility

The sexual cycle of males is associated with pre-sexual performances, copulation, and ultimate ejaculation.

A sufficient dose of zinc can improve these parameters and provide a prolonged sexual cycle.

A measured dose of zinc can able to provide an extension of ejaculatory latency without troubling sex vigor, sex-arousal ability, penile erection, and motivation.

It has been observed that increased testosterone levels can assist in the expansion of the Corpus cavemosum.

This is followed by elongation of the penis and its outward protrusion.
