Women today are no less than men and are giving them competition in every sector. As women are acquiring higher degree, late marriages are common trend and with this come complications in pregnancy.
Once the pregnancy problem erupts, females resort to gynecological treatment. However, many times even treatment doesn’t help and then the best solution which a couple can opt for is IVF (In Vitro Fertilization). But the main problem is after a certain age, females have fewer eggs in their ovaries or the eggs produced are of low quality. In this case even IVF cannot help, therefore to ensure successful pregnancy; egg donation can be the best solution.
The procedure of egg donation:
In the process of egg donation, the donor is injected so that many eggs can be produced. Once the eggs are ripened, the donor is given a short anesthesia and at this time eggs are withdrawn from inside the vagina and that too without any incision on the abdomen. Once the eggs are removed, donor can leave after three to four hours of the procedure.
The eggs collected from the donor are fertilized with the sperm of the recipients’ husband in the laboratory. This can be done either by IVF or ICSI and after the procedure it is kept in incubator for two days. After two days, a four-celled embryo and after three days, an eight-celled embryo is formed. After 5 days a multi-celled blast cyst is formed and this formed embryo is transferred to the womb of the recipient. There is also the Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) technique which is used if the sperm is of poor quality.
