The womb or uterus is an organ of the female reproductive system. You may aware of the development of each organ during the fetal stage is complicated. Uterus development is as complicated as heart development. At the very beginning of the pregnancy, the uterus starts to develop in the female fetus. Uterine development is not similar in every individual. One in 20 women has a mild structural difference of the uterus. Surrogacy: Absence of uterus or removal of the uterus does not always a cause of absence or loss of ovaries in a woman. The eggs that produce in her ovaries can be retrieved during ovulation and used for in-vitro-fertilization (IVF) treatment. However, the producing embryo cannot be transferred to her because of the missing uterus. In such conditions, hiring a gestational surrogate who can carry the embryo in her womb on the behalf of the intended mother and relinquish the child after birth is an alternative way to have genetically related children for a woman without a womb. However, every country has specific surrogacy rules and regulations, and patients need to well-aware of these rules and regulations.
Uterus transplantation: Women without a womb have the option to opt for uterus transplantation. Like any other organ transplantation, uterine transplantation is a highly complex surgical technique. It requires different medical testing to check the receptivity ability of the woman. Also, availability and searching for matching healthy donors are tedious jobs. But the success of uterus transplantation offers the recipient woman to achieve pregnancy and become a genetic mother. However, the rate of uterus transplantation is very less. Recently medical news has declared some successful uterus transplantation case reports.
Adoption or fostering is an option apart from surrogacy and uterus transplantation.
